Built by people who wrote these apps

AppTunnel wasn't designed by a startup that studied the legacy software market. It was built by developers who spent decades inside it.

Where This Came From

Decades in the trenches of legacy software

Before AppTunnel, we spent decades writing the kinds of applications AppTunnel is designed to deploy — Delphi, Visual Basic Classic, PowerBuilder, Visual COBOL, MFC and ATL C++, Java Swing, CrossBasic/REALbasic/Xojo, and even PowerBASIC systems running critical business logic across manufacturing, logistics, finance, insurance, scientific, and retail. Some of that history goes back to the MS-DOS, PC DOS, and OS/2 era.

We know these applications from the inside. We know why they were built the way they were built, why rewriting them isn't a real option for most organizations, and what actually breaks when you try to push them to remote users without the right infrastructure underneath them.

When remote work forced the issue, every solution we found was built for a different problem. VPN sprawl. Citrix overhead. Intune fighting with COM registration. ngrok getting the tunnel right but ignoring the application entirely. DevArt tunneling the database over HTTP and wondering why transactions fell apart.

We built AppTunnel because none of the existing tools understood the problem we were actually solving.

The sun has set on most of these platforms as active development targets. But the applications built on them haven't gone anywhere — they're still running factory floors, closing ledgers, processing claims, ringing up transactions. Decades of institutional knowledge embedded in code that nobody can afford to rewrite. AppTunnel is their new dawn: not a replacement for what works, but the infrastructure to carry it forward into a world that didn't exist when it was written.

Industries We Know

Experience in the environments that matter

Legacy applications in regulated and operational industries have requirements that general-purpose tools ignore. We've worked inside these environments.

Manufacturing

Shop floor and back-office applications that can't go down, can't be rewritten, and need to talk to databases on infrastructure that predates cloud. We know what uptime means on a factory floor.

Logistics

Warehouse, dispatch, and fleet management systems running on infrastructure spread across depots and distribution centers. These environments don't tolerate VPN complexity or multi-step IT setup — they need software that just works when a driver clocks in at 4 AM.

Finance

Transaction systems and reporting tools where session integrity, audit trails, and data residency aren't optional. The self-hosted architecture and encrypted secrets system were shaped by these requirements.

Insurance

Policy administration and claims processing systems that span decades of business rules. We understand the compliance pressure to modernize delivery without touching the application logic itself.

Scientific

Laboratory instrumentation, data acquisition, and research applications built for precision environments that never got migrated. These systems often run on isolated networks with strict data integrity requirements — AppTunnel's self-hosted architecture means your research data never touches a shared cloud.

Retail

POS and inventory systems with distributed locations, mixed environments, and no tolerance for complex IT setup at the edge. Single-file distribution and always-on tunnels were built with this in mind.

Our Approach

A few things we believe strongly

01

Your data stays on your infrastructure

AppTunnel is self-hosted by design, not as an afterthought. The only connection to AppTunnel.io is a daily license validation. Your applications, your users, and your data never touch our servers. This isn't a feature — it's the architecture.

02

Don't make users think about infrastructure

The people using these applications — insurance adjusters, plant floor supervisors, claims processors — shouldn't have to know what a VPN is. One file, sign in, click to launch. That's the experience we designed for.

03

Legacy doesn't mean broken

A 20-year-old Delphi application running a manufacturing line is not technical debt — it's a working system carrying decades of institutional knowledge. The problem isn't the application. The problem is getting it securely to the people who need it.
